1GSDrumXX.Zip 2------------ 3 4 Here are some brief instructions to get you started. 5 6 1) If the zip you downloaded is named GSDrum00.Zip, you can 7 create a special directory to place the patches in, make a 8 backup of your original drum kit, and/or copy this Drum Set over 9 your originals. The patches contained in GSDrum00.Zip were 10 designed to replace the drum set that comes with the GUS but 11 PlayMIDI and the MIDI player that is a part of the Ruckus 12 Developement Kit fail to play these patches properly. Windows 13 and games seem to work OK but use at your own risk. (Ie: I 14 advise backups) In any case, use or ignore #2 depending on what 15 you want to do. 16 17 2) First, you need to make a directory for these patches to go 18 into. Some of the patches may have names that are already used 19 in your UltraSound's MIDI directory. If you excepted the normal 20 configuration when installing your GUS or GUS-MAX software, this 21 directory should be ULTRASND\MIDI. I would advise making the 22 subdirectory that contains these patches off of the MIDI 23 directory. Choose a name that is relevant to the drum set you 24 are installing. Here are some recommendations. (I am assuming 25 the default ultrasnd directory location) 26 27 Drum Set Archive Directory 28 ---------------- --------- 29 GSDrum00.Zip \UltraSnd\Midi 30 \UltraSnd\Midi\Bank0 31 *GSDrum08.Zip \UltraSnd\Midi\Bank8_16 32 *GSDrum16.Zip \UltraSnd\Midi\Bank8_16 33 GSDrum24.Zip \UltraSnd\Midi\Bank24 34 \UltraSnd\Midi\Electric 35 GSDrum25.Zip \UltraSnd\Midi\Bank25 36 \UltraSnd\Midi\TR_808 37 GSDrum32.Zip \UltraSnd\Midi\Bank32 38 \UltraSnd\Midi\Jazz 39 GSDrum40.Zip \UltraSnd\Midi\Bank40 40 \UltraSnd\Midi\Brush 41 etc... 42 43 * - Banks 8 and 16 use some of the same patches. Therefore, 44 they should be in the same directory. 45 46 3) Once the contents of the zip(s) is/are in their appropriate 47 directory(s), you need to prepare the banks for use. I will not 48 explain how to do this for DOS right now, but will explain for 49 Windows. 50 51 4) Once in Windows, load up Patch Manager (Bank Manager version 52 required). Select Bank Manager. 53 54 a) Once in Bank Manager, click on FILE then choose NEW 55 BANK. 56 57 b) Where it asks for NUMBER, enter the Bank Number that 58 is attached to the end of the ZIP name. Ie: 59 GSDrum40.Zip is bank number 40. 60 61 c) Where you are asked for BANK NAME, Enter anything you 62 like, though there are appropriate names for each bank. 63 Here is the listing : 64 65 Bank Number Bank Name 66 ----------- --------- 67 0 Standard Drums 68 8 Room Drums 69 16 Power Drums 70 24 Electronic Drums 71 25 TR_808 Drums 72 32 Jazz Drums 73 40 Brush Drums 74 48 Orchestra 75 76 d) Where is says PATCH DIRECTORY, use the BROWSE button 77 to select the directory that contains that new patches. 78 79 e) When everything is ok so far, click on OK. 80 81 f) Now, the file called BANK.INF that comes in this 82 ZIP gives the appropriate patch maps. Refer to that 83 file which is specific to the bank that you have 84 recieved. 85 86 87Dustin McCartney, cmccart@eis.calstate.edu 88 _ 89[_ Elysium Ent. Release 90[_ Coder/Musician 91
