In 51Canfield, tableau cards may be built on each other downward 52in alternate colors. An entire pile must be moved as a unit 53in building. Top cards of the piles are available 54to be played on foundations, but never into empty spaces. 55.Pp 56Spaces must be filled from the stock. The top card of 57the stock also is available to be played on foundations or 58built on tableau piles. After the stock is exhausted, 59tableau spaces may be filled from the talon and the player may 60keep them open until he wishes to use them. 61.Pp 62Cards are dealt from the hand to the talon by threes 63and this repeats until there are no more cards in the hand 64or the player quits. 65To have cards dealt onto the talon the player types 66.Sq Ic ht 67for his move. 68Foundation base cards are also automatically moved to the foundation 69when they become available. 70.Pp 71The command 72.Sq Ic c 73causes 74.Nm 75to maintain card counting statistics on the bottom of the screen. 76When properly used this can greatly increase one's chances of winning. 77.Pp 78The rules for betting are somewhat less strict than 79those used in the official version of the game. 80The initial deal costs $13. 81You may quit at this point or inspect the game. 82Inspection costs $13 and allows you to make as many 83moves as possible without moving any cards from your hand to the talon. 84(The initial deal places three cards on the talon; 85if all these cards are used, three more are made available.) 86Finally, if the game seems interesting, 87you must pay the final installment of $26. 88At this point you are 89credited at the rate of $5 for each card on the foundation; 90as the game progresses you are credited with $5 for each 91card that is moved to the foundation. 92Each run through the hand after the first costs $5. 93The card counting feature 94costs $1 for each unknown card that is identified. 95If the information is toggled on, you are only charged for cards 96that became visible since it was last turned on. 97Thus the maximum cost of information is $34. 98Playing time is charged at a rate of $1 per minute. 99.Pp 100With no arguments, the program 101.Nm cfscores 102prints out the current status of your 103.Nm 104account. 105If a 106.Ar user 107name is specified, it prints out the status of their 108.Nm 109account. 110If the 111.Fl a 112flag is specified, 113it prints out the 114.Nm 115accounts for all users that have 116played the game since the database was set up. 117.Sh FILES 118.Bl -tag -width ".Pa /usr/games/canfield" -compact 119.It Pa /usr/games/canfield 120the game itself 121.It Pa /usr/games/cfscores 122the database printer 123.It Pa /var/games/cfscores 124the database of scores 125.El 126.Sh AUTHORS 127.An -nosplit 128Originally written: 129.An Steve Levine 130.Pp 131Further random hacking by: 132.An Steve Feldman , 133.An Kirk McKusick , 134.An Mikey Olson , 135and 136.An Eric Allman . 137.Sh BUGS 138It is impossible to cheat. 139
