In 47Canfield, tableau cards may be built on each other downward 48in alternate colors. An entire pile must be moved as a unit 49in building. Top cards of the piles are available 50to be played on foundations, but never into empty spaces. 51.Pp 52Spaces must be filled from the stock. The top card of 53the stock also is available to be played on foundations or 54built on tableau piles. After the stock is exhausted, 55tableau spaces may be filled from the talon and the player may 56keep them open until he wishes to use them. 57.Pp 58Cards are dealt from the hand to the talon by threes 59and this repeats until there are no more cards in the hand 60or the player quits. 61To have cards dealt onto the talon the player types 62.Sq Ic ht 63for his move. 64Foundation base cards are also automatically moved to the foundation 65when they become available. 66.Pp 67The command 68.Sq Ic c 69causes 70.Nm 71to maintain card counting statistics on the bottom of the screen. 72When properly used this can greatly increase one's chances of winning. 73.Pp 74The rules for betting are somewhat less strict than 75those used in the official version of the game. 76The initial deal costs $13. 77You may quit at this point or inspect the game. 78Inspection costs $13 and allows you to make as many 79moves as possible without moving any cards from your hand to the talon. 80(The initial deal places three cards on the talon; 81if all these cards are used, three more are made available.) 82Finally, if the game seems interesting, 83you must pay the final installment of $26. 84At this point you are 85credited at the rate of $5 for each card on the foundation; 86as the game progresses you are credited with $5 for each 87card that is moved to the foundation. 88Each run through the hand after the first costs $5. 89The card counting feature 90costs $1 for each unknown card that is identified. 91If the information is toggled on, you are only charged for cards 92that became visible since it was last turned on. 93Thus the maximum cost of information is $34. 94Playing time is charged at a rate of $1 per minute. 95.Pp 96With no arguments, the program 97.Nm cfscores 98prints out the current status of your 99.Nm 100account. 101If a 102.Ar user 103name is specified, it prints out the status of their 104.Nm 105account. 106If the 107.Fl a 108flag is specified, 109it prints out the 110.Nm 111accounts for all users that have 112played the game since the database was set up. 113.Sh FILES 114.Bl -tag -width ".Pa /usr/games/canfield" -compact 115.It Pa /usr/games/canfield 116the game itself 117.It Pa /usr/games/cfscores 118the database printer 119.It Pa /var/games/cfscores 120the database of scores 121.El 122.Sh AUTHORS 123.An -nosplit 124Originally written: 125.An Steve Levine 126.Pp 127Further random hacking by: 128.An Steve Feldman , 129.An Kirk McKusick , 130.An Mikey Olson , 131and 132.An Eric Allman . 133.Sh BUGS 134It is impossible to cheat. 135
