This file is normally unreadable, and so may contain 21privileged information. The format of the file is a series of lines 22of the form: <system-name>[\ \et]*<phone-number>. The system name is 23one of those defined in the 24.Xr remote 5 25file and the phone number is constructed from any sequence of 26characters terminated only by ``,'' or the end of the line. 27The ``='' and ``*'' characters are 28indicators to the auto call units to pause and wait for a second dial 29tone (when going through an exchange). The ``='' is required by the 30.Tn DF02-AC 31and the ``*'' is required by the 32.Tn BIZCOMP 331030. 34.Pp 35Only one phone number per line is permitted. However, if more than 36one line in the file contains the same system name 37.Xr tip 1 38will attempt to dial each one in turn, until it establishes a connection. 39.Sh FILES 40.Bl -tag -width /etc/phones -compact 41.It Pa /etc/phones 42.El 43.Sh SEE ALSO 44.Xr tip 1 , 45.Xr remote 5 46.Sh HISTORY 47The 48.Nm 49file appeared in 50.Bx 4.2 . 51
