2ABOUT THE LILYPOND FETA FONTS
3=============================
4
5This directory includes three PostScript Type-1 fonts from the GNU
6Lilypond musical notation typesetting project:
7
8	Lilypond-feta-design20.pfa
9	Lilypond-feta-nummer-design10.pfa
10	Lilypond-parmesan-design20.pfa
11
12These were generated from the METAFONT outlines in the Lilypond 2.1.0
13distribution. A normal make in the Lilypond source distribution's mf/
14directory will create font files called (among others) feta20.pfa,
15feta-nummer10.pfa and parmesan20.pfa, and the supplied fonts are
16exactly those, renamed to make their origin clear. (The font family
17names within the .pfa files have also been renamed, adding a
18-rosegarden suffix, so as to avoid any possible conflict with other
19versions of the same fonts installed as global system fonts.)
20
21Lilypond and the feta font are copyright 1997 to 2003 by Han-Wen
22Nienhuys and Jan Nieuwenhuizen and are distributed under the terms of
23the GNU General Public Licence, a copy of which may be found in the
24COPYING file in the top-level directory of this distribution.
25
26We would like to express our gratitude to the Lilypond project for
27taking the immense amount of time and effort to create one of the
28highest quality notation fonts available, and then making it free
29under the GPL.
30
31See http://www.lilypond.org/ for more information about Lilypond.
32
33
34GPL COMPLIANCE
35==============
36
37The supplied .pfa files are a compiled version, not the source code of
38these fonts. Because we do not wish to incorporate significant parts
39of Lilypond source into the Rosegarden distribution, under the terms
40of the GPL we hereby offer to provide the standard Lilypond-2.1.0
41source distribution without charge (except for any necessary shipping
42or packaging fee) upon application to anyone who has received these
43.pfa fonts as part of the Rosegarden distribution. Of course you
44would normally find it much easier to get the code direct from
45lilypond.org, but we are making this offer anyway so as to ensure
46formal compliance with the GPL. To take up this offer, please contact
47Chris Cannam, cannam@all-day-breakfast.com.

README.regenerated

1Type1 fonts for Rosegarden generated from the lilypond sources (lilypond-2.1.0.tar.gz).
2The sources can be found here: http://download.linuxaudio.org/lilypond/sources/v2.1/
3
4Build environment: openSUSE-10.2 with the following packages:
5mftrace-1.2.5-13
6potrace-1.7-35
7t1utils-1.26-285
8tetex-3.0-58
9fontforge-20061220-1
10
11It is very important to install potrace, which is optional if you have installed autotrace. If both programs are installed, mftrace uses potrace by default. The type1 fonts generated using autotrace didn't work for me in openSUSE-10.2
12
13In order to generate the fonts yourself from the lilypond source package, edit the file 'stepmake/metafont-rules.make' replacing in the command line '--pfa' by '--formats=pfa'.
14
15The resulting files reside in the directory 'mf/out'. You need to rename three files:
16
17feta20.pfa -> LilyPond-feta-design20.pfa
18feta-nummer10.pfa -> LilyPond-feta-nummer-design10.pfa
19parmesan20.pfa -> LilyPond-parmesan-design20.pfa
20
21The family name has been also edited:
22
23$ grep "FamilyName" *.pfa
24LilyPond-feta-design20.pfa: /FamilyName (LilyPond-feta-rosegarden) readonly def
25LilyPond-feta-nummer-design10.pfa: /FamilyName (LilyPond-feta-nummer-rosegarden) readonly def
26LilyPond-parmesan-design20.pfa: /FamilyName (LilyPond-parmesan-rosegarden) readonly def
