68Description
69-----------
70
71VDRAdmin-AM is a web based interface to VDR.
72
73
74Installation
75------------
76
77See "INSTALL" file.
78
79
80Options
81-------
82
83 -n, --nofork
84 don't fork, log to stderr.
85
86 -c, --config
87 run configuration dialog.
88
89 -d [dir], --cfgdir [dir]
90 use [dir] for configuration files.
91
92 -k, --kill
93 kill a forked vdradmind[.pl].
94
95 -p [name], --pid [name]
96 name of pidfile to use.
97
98 -6, --ipv6
99 use IPv6. [EXPERIMENTAL!]
100
101 -s, --ssl
102 only accept https:// connections.
103
104 NOTE: this requires server-cert.pem and server-key.pem in the "certs" directory.
105 You can create them for example like this:
106 # openssl req -new -x509 -days 9999 -keyout server-rsa-key.pem -out server-cert.pem
107 # openssl rsa -in server-rsa-key.pem > server-key.pem
108
109 -l [level], --log [level]
110 set log level for this session [0 - 7].
111
112 -h, --help
113 print usage information.

1VDRAdmin-AM translators guide
2==============================
3
4Since vdradmin-0.97-am3.2 almost every text has been extracted from the
5scripts and templates. This makes it much easier for anybody, who wants to
6translate VDRAdmin-AM to another language.
7
8All you need to do is to let me (mail AT andreas DOT vdr-developer DOT org)
9know, that you plan to add a new language, so that I can tell you if anybody
10else is already working on that language. After my OK you can start your work.
11
12
13Howto
14-----
15
16We've decided to use GNU gettext for translating the user interface to
17different languages. GNU gettext is widely used among Linux programs of all
18kind. It comes with a lot of tools and with support for most programming
19languages.
20
21The translations are stored in plain text files with a *.po file extension.
22Each language has its own file (e.g. de.po, fi.po, ...). You may edit these
23po-files with any text editor, but we recommend to use a po-editor like
24poedit [1], kbabel [2] or gtranslator [3].
25
26You must have installed the "gettext" package of your distribution to compile
27the plain text translations to the binary files needed by VDRAdmin-AM.
28
29The basic work flow for a translation looks like this:
30
311) Copy po/vdradmin.pot to po/<language code>.po. See [4] for a list of
32 available language codes.
33
342) Open the file in your favorite po-editor. Make sure you set the correct
35 encoding and fill in your email and language in the corresponding header
36 fields. poedit makes this pretty easy - just go to catalog/options and
37 fill out the form.
38
393) Now you can start translating. Keep in mind, that if you translate a message,
40 you should use html entities [5], [6] for special characters. Any text that
41 origins from vdradmind[.pl] must not have html entities.
42 Beside the help texts, you will not need any formating tags.
43
44 Messages marked as "fuzzy" indicate, that they may have been derived from
45 similar messages and it's not sure, that the translation is correct. Check
46 these translations and correct them if needed or simply mark them as not
47 fuzzy (poedit: edit/mark as fuzzy)
48
494) To check how your translated texts look like, you have to compile them
50 first to *.mo-files. To do so, you edit "make.sh" first and append
51 your <language code> to the "LANGS=" line. Running "./make.sh po" will then
52 create a new *.mo-file from your changed *.po-file.
53
54 Please note, that you have to restart vdradmind[.pl] after any changes you
55 make to the translation. In order to allow VDRAdmin-AM to select your language,
56 you must have the appropriate locales installed on your system (see
57 "locale -a"). You should make sure, that the correct locale is selected
58 with the LANG and LC_* environment variables.
59
60 For example: LANG=de_DE ./vdradmind
61
625) If you are done, send the *.po-file to me:
63
64 mail AT andreas DOT vdr-developer DOT org
65
666) When changes have been made to VDRAdmin-AM, that cause some messages to
67 change, the *.po-files will by modified and we will send them to the
68 translators. The process then starts with 2) again and we will include your
69 new translation with the next release.
70
71
72If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
